Winter Island is the main setting of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for the Nintendo DS, particularly the Adventure Tours mode. The location consists of six towns, accessed in order of Frostown, Sparkleton, Polastraits, Cubyrinth, Icepeak, and Blizland.

In Adventure Tours's opening cutscene, Bowser and Dr. Eggman capture the snow spirits, except Frosty as he managed to escape, and Bowser uses his flame breath to melt all of the snow. Their reason in doing so is to cancel the Olympic Winter Games to instead host their own. Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, with the help of Toad and their other friends whom they meet along the way, go on a journey to rescue the snow spirits, who can bring snow to an entire area, so that the Olympic Winter Games can commence.
