Spikebonker[1] is a drill-like Badnik featured in Sonic & Knuckles and its lock-on equivalent, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.
History[edit]
Sonic & Knuckles / Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[edit]
In Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Spikebonkers appear only in Death Egg Zone, where they hover slowly from side-to-side with their mace orbiting them. Whenever Sonic or Tails approaches a Spikebonker, it attacks by sending its mace flying towards them. However, the mace has a limited range and returns to its Spikebonker like a boomerang. The Spikebonkers repeat this pattern until they are destroyed or until Sonic goes far away enough.
With the right timing, the player can defeat a Spikebonker with a Spin Jump. However, the player has to take notice of their mace's movements while attacking, as it can easily harm the player upon its return trip.
Sonic the Comic[edit]
In Sonic the Comic's 51st issue and 52nd issue, Spikebonkers serve as the Death Egg II's security system. Sonic battled them when he infiltrated the Death Egg. They are capable of speech, and talk like a typical robotic security system.
In Issue #51, Sonic battled the Spikebonkers when he infiltrated Level 19, Sector 2 of the Death Egg II. He seemed very unimpressed with their design and particularly their ridiculous name. In Issue #52, the Spikebonkers eventually brought Sonic before Dr. Robotnik, but Sonic insisted that he had not been beaten and that they had merely helped him find Robotnik.
Spikebonkers make another appearance in the 231st issue.

General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Resembling cones, the Spikebonkers have an orange top cap with a black cylinder section below. Placed below their orange cap on their black underside are also two glaring eyes. On their bottom, they have a grey drill as well. They also carry an engine pack on their back and have a mace ball orbiting their lower section. In Sonic the Comic, their top cap is instead colored red.
