Slap Fight (known as Alcon in North America) is a shoot 'em up game, originally developed by Toaplan (revived as TATSUJIN) and published by Taito in 1986 for Arcade machines. In this game, players can drive a spaceship that can destroy ground vehicles such as tanks. In some areas, a boss must be fought alongside the area. The game has about 50 areas, divided into 5 sections. The spaceship can be powered up by getting stars from certain enemies. The power-up system allows the spaceship to change its weapons, increase its defense or give limited protection with a Shield. There's no actual storyline in the game, as both regions differ from each other.

According to a prototype version of the game, Toaplan was meant to self-publish a Sega Genesis port of Slap Fight around 1992. This version was being developed by MNM Software (currently known as Mindware) with a new gameplay mode and arranged music by Yuzo Koshiro. However, due to financial difficulties from Toaplan at the time, the company was forced to handle the publishing to Tengen Ltd. (the Japanese branch of Tengen). Tengen Ltd. brought Slap Fight MD to the Sega Genesis in 1993 for Japan. Samsung also released the game in South Korea as well, in 1993 or later, as it featured Samsung's current logo.

The Genesis version was re-released as a pre-installed game in the Japanese and Asian versions of Mega Drive Mini by Sega in 2019. This new re-release omits all in-game mentions of Tengen, as well as their instruction manual being re-written almost from the scratch due to Tengen Ltd.'s trait of including internal jokes in their instruction manuals, which was carried over when Tengen Ltd. was renamed by Atari Games as Time Warner Interactive.
